Lifeskills Annual Concert
Lifeskills concert for 2008 was held in October. This year the performances consisted of dance performances, solo singing, musical performances and plays.
We had our regular performers participating in the acts as well as three performers participating for their first time. All the performers were so confident on stage and proud of their achievements.
All the practicing really did pay off with excellent performances on the night, and all performers receiving an award for their work.
We look forward to our concert in 2009. Details of the 2009 concert will be on this page in mid 2009.
Tri State Games
Lifeskills Larrikins come home with 19 medals.
The seven local competitors competed against more than 270 other competitors from Victoria, South Australia and NSW. The Larrikins participated in an array of athletic, swimming, and indoor sporting events.
It was only the second year the Larrikins competed in the games, nevertheless they equipped themselves very well, placing in almost all of the events in which they took part.
“The sporting, social and educational benefits that each individual achieves through attending such big events cannot be estimated,” support worker Kate Allport said. Participation in the Tri State Games has a myriad of positive outcomes for competitors which include personal skills development, teamwork, increased self esteem, self confidence and determination, improved health and fitness, opportunity to travel and meet people and most of all the opportunity to compete and achieve on a level playing field.
A huge thank you goes out to all the sponsors and members of the community who supported the ‘Lifeskills Larrikins’ through the fundraising initiatives held throughout the year. The support received from the community was acknowledged with the presentation to the ‘Lifeskills Larrikins’ for the annual Tri State Games community inclusion award. The award is presented to the team who demonstrate great ideas for fundraising and integration of clients into the wider community, as they attempt to raise funds to get their team to the games. Lifeskills fundraising initiatives were certainly support by the community, thank you.
Competitors from this year have already expressed their interest to attend the Tri State Games again and others have expressed they would like to go for their first time.
